The P.O.D #2: The Winch, Camden Youth Project

Lily Field

What is P.O.D?

The P.O.D stands for 'People of DCTUK' in which we discuss an array of topics ranging from WHO our clients are, WHERE we fit our tiles and WHAT we do! DCTUK started P.O.D as a way to build a relationship with our customers and a way to show our future customers that we are more than just a flooring company! Every week we release an episode, and each week we will get to know one of our customers or even a rando on the street who is very keen to be on camera!

DCTUK take pride in our mission: To give the best customer experience through flooring, to deliver on style and budget, and bring a smile to your face.

Which is what we instill within all of our content on our socials, the P.O.D was made to allow people to develop an understanding of our ethos as a company and also get to know who we work with and THEIR story. Who doesn't want to listen to two people chatting about their passion?

Who are The Winch?

This week we interviewed Jade Wilkins from The Winch, Camden Youth Project, a company that work with young adults and families who are struggling and need support in their every day lives.

The Winch work with several sectors of people aiding them to boost their confidence in job searches as well as helping children succeed no matter theit circumstances. They follow four main goals:

  • Work alongside children and young people to develop their strengths, skills and sense of purpose
  • Connect people to create a kinder and more resourceful community
  • Back community-led change
  • Achieve organisational excellence

They work alongside The Act for Change fund who are a partnership worth £3.6 million that supports organizations working towards social change through young people. This initiative provides resources for young people to challenge social injustice, overcome inequality, and speak out on issues they face.

The Act for Change Fund is a collaborative effort between the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, in conjunction with the National Lottery Community Fund. Both foundations act as match funders and award grants on behalf of the #iwill Fund.

The #iwill Fund is a product of a £50 million joint investment from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) aimed at enabling young people to participate in high-quality social action opportunities.

Why did we interview Jade?

We interviewed Jade Wilkins, from The Winch as a way to promote its reputation as a prominent youth community organization based in North London. The Winch has a long history of providing support and opportunities to young people, particularly those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and has been recognized for its work in this area.

We were interested in learning more about The Winch's approach to supporting young people, their programs and initiatives, and the impact they have had in the local community. Additionally, the interview provided an opportunity for The Winch to raise awareness about the issues affecting young people and the importance of supporting youth development.

This interview served as a way to highlight the important work of The Winch and raise awareness about the issues facing young people today.
