How to clean your carpet tiles

Cooking

Okay, this is a question we get asked ALOT. I think it's finally time I wrote a simple blog explaining the basics on how to clean your carpet tiles before you spend a fortune on proffesional cleaners. (Psst, they are not needed!) Keep reading and I'll tell you how you can freshen up those carpet tiles costing little to no money at all.

Vacuum Carpet Tiles Regularly

Vacuuming your carpet is a tedious task, however, make sure you get that job done as regular vacuuming can make your life easier in the long run! It is one of the most basic, effective ways to help prolong the life and look of your carpet tiles. It also helps reduce allergens in the home environment as household dust contains a host of undesirable things, including pollen, animal dander, dust mites and other particles. EW!!  The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends vacuuming areas that are frequently used at least twice per week to help keep carpeting in good shape.

Spot-Clean Tiles Where Needed

Once you have the basic vacuuming complete, take a closer look to see if any sections didn't clean up well. These areas can benefit from a spot treatment. Since carpet tiles can be removed, you can even take the tile out and complete this treatment on a table or somewhere easier.

To remove a carpet tile, first see if it will come loose easily by gently pulling up on a corner. If the tile has adhesive and isn't coming loose, try running a butter knife along the edge to help separate it from the floor.

The most important thing to remember when spot cleaning is to follow the manufacturer's directions in terms of what type of cleaning solution to use and how to apply it as each one may be different. Many recommend a mild detergent and gentle blotting with a soft, white cloth. Be sure to rinse the area(s) completely so all of the detergent comes out. Carpet tiles can be rinsed with a hose or sprayer and hung up to drip dry. Carpet tiles on a washing line! That's not something you see every day!

Deep-Clean Carpet Tiles Occasionally

All carpet tiles can benefit from a deep cleaning periodically. Many people opt to have a professional come in to do a cleaning once a year or so as a way of making sure that all of the ground-in dirt and debris are loosened and removed. Professional carpet cleaners are also able to address difficult issues, such as pet stains.

If you didn't want to pay for a proffesional cleaner you can rent a carpet-cleaning machine from most home improvement store, and even supermarkets now a days! Again be sure to check the carpet manufacturer's recommendations for what cleaner to use and how to best apply it.

Top Tip!

Have you ever heard of carpet freshner? If not it's a gorgeous smelling powder that you sprinkle on your carpet when you just want your room to smell nice and want to give your tiles that extra sparkle. All you do is sprinkle it on and vacuum it in, it's that simple! You can get carpet freshner from most stores, however we have found a lovely independent business that make their own using natural ingredients and come in lot's of different scents! Link below!
