Carpet tile shapes sized up

So far in our Idiot's Guide to Carpet Tiles we've covered the types of tile on offer for an array of possible projects. We've also unravelled the various materials on offer as well as the different loops and constructions that make up our trusty modular flooring.

Now it's time to get shapes and measurements sized up so let's get cracking!

Size matters, right?

When it comes to glasses of wine on a Friday night, yes but when it comes to carpet tiles, they all come in one standard size so there's one less wobble to worry about. Phew!

Carpet tiles vary in style, design and construction like no other. Each range has their own unique personalities and performance benefits but in terms of measurements, every single one is packed into a practical 50 x 50cm perimeter.

This standardised sizing makes it super simple to mix & match across ranges and create your own bespoke arrangements. We do of course have our 25 x 100cm carpet planks too, which are worth a look while you're here.

Wait, not all modular carpet is square?

If you've been surfing Planet Pinterest or flicking through glossy interior design magazines, you might have come across some crazy carpet tile shapes.

We've seen everything from simple solitary circles to a whole hive of hexagons but here at DCTUK, we like to cater for those bare necessities and cater for them well so we stick to square tiles and rectangular planks. (For now!)

If you're a dab hand at design or know what you're doing with a Stanley knife, feel free to get creative and cut your required shapes out yourselves. Do make sure you're wearing protective gloves first and promise to send us some snaps to our Twitter page @dctuk when you're done.

So how many do I need to order?

You tell us! Whether you're ordering carpet tiles over the phone with one of our friendly sales team or via our whizzy website, you'll need the measurements of the room(s) you're working on to hand.

Once you've got your measurements - all present and correct - you can head over to your chosen product page where you'll find a handy little carpet tile calculator. Whether you're doing the math in metres or keeping it old skool in feet, we've got you covered.

We do always recommend adding on an additional 5-10% to account for wastage and any replacement further down the line when you'll want to be sure the new tiles are from the same batch as the old.
