When it comes to understanding underlay, I want you to think of your new floor as jam on toast. The bland toast is your bare subfloor and the sweet, shiny jam is the beautiful carpet tiles or vinyl you have just purchased to go on top.
Stick with me because now you've got two choices:
1. Leave the toast and jam combo as is. It's perfectly tasty and does the job without a single complaint.
2. Add a thick layer of creamy butter that is going to make the whole experience a whole lot more substantial and luxurious. This butter is your optional underlay.
InterLay Underlay (tiles)
Our popular InterLay underlay is from the ingenious innovators at Interface who also brought us TacTiles. This underfloor option comes in 50x50cm tile format, which makes it the perfect partner in crime for our standard-sized carpet tiles.
Another similarity InterLay shares with our modular carpet products is that it can be loose laid, without the need for any additional adhesive or fitting costs. It can be installed randomly, face up or face down, so it really is a total breeze.
As well as being incredibly resilient and robust, these 5.9mm thick underlay tiles also have the ability to improves acoustics, minimise excess noise and drastically boost that plush bouncy feeling underfoot so you can give Happy Feet a run for his money.
InterLay only comes in one colour - black - so you can be sure it will be discreet and subtle under your brand new flooring arrangement. The compostition mix of glass fleece and PU foam also contains a high percentage of recycled content which is always a plus with us.
InstaLay Underlay (rolls)
Although InstaLay sounds very similar to InterLay, they are actually very different products, which makes finding the right underfloor for your specific interior project more streamline than ever before.
Manufactured by an entirely different brand all together, InstaLay underlay rolls have been designed specifically with time-saving and cost-cutting in mind.
Featuring a unique self-adhesive membrane, InstaLay couldn't be any easier to work with. Simply roll out onto the subfloor, peel back the protective film and then press your carpet tiles or vinyl into place on top.
This underfloor product comes with Low Grab and High Grab options, which is basically an indication of how intensely it will stick to the product. Low Grab is the more gentle of the two and is suited particularly well to carpet tiles, while our High Grab rolls are recommended for vinyl flooring.
Either way, you will be able to walk on the floor immediately after application and won't need to touch a single drop of messy adhesive! InstaLay is suitable for use with underfloor heating and comes complete with an impressive 10 year guarantee so it's a great choice for both commercial and domestic customers.
