Today is Earth Day! Yay - happy Earth Day fellow earthlings! In case you didn't already know, Earth Day was started way back when flares were in style and over the decades, the eco-conscious movement has acquired more than 50,000 partners in 196 countries, all wanting to nurture a better, more sustainable planet for future generations. Us humans have made a bit of a mess of this beautiful world we live on so far, so it's about time we all muck in to remedy the situation and what better place to start than with the eco-friendly carpet tiles beneath our feet, right?
Huh? Earth Day?
Still none the wiser? Right, let me take you back to Friday 22nd April 1970 when the Jackson 5 were topping the charts with ABC and platform shoes were all the rage. It was on this date that the very first ‘Earth Day’ took place, all the way across in the pond in the US of A. The day was a (successful) chance for 20 million Americans to peacefully demonstrate their desires for an environmental reform. Since then, Earth Day has become an internationally recognised, annual event and here we are in 2016 still fighting for the cause.
If history isn’t your bag I might have lost you a bit there but look sharp and stop yawning because I’m about to make things a whole lot more interesting. In a nutshell, Earth Day is all about expanding the worldwide movement to build a much healthier planet for us and our little ones and their little ones to live on by addressing factors such as climate change and sustainability. You don’t need to be a full-time tree hugger or a vegan veteran to get on board with this either - when it comes to making our ways of life more ‘green’, every little really does help.
What’s that got to do with carpet tiles?
Believe it or not, the carpet tile industry is actually one of the most ethically aware and eco conscious out there. You would be forgiven for believing that carpet tiles automatically result in waste of materials, toxic substances and extra damage to the environment but you would be entirely wrong. Sure, some carpet tile companies will be dealing in this type of tomfoolery but not us. Nope. For example, we have Modulyss PureAir100 which helps purify the atmosphere by collecting dust particles and Modulyss Millennium100 which is made using 100% recycled Nylon ECONYL yarns. We also have Nouveau Gradient and Nouveau Trio, which both contain more than 50% recycled content so if you forget to use your recycling bin, at least you can ease the guilt a bit with ecological and economical carpet tiles.
