Brand Focus: Burmatex

Too often we, as customers, purchase products without giving two hoots about where they came from or who the brains were behind their existence. On a daily basis we’re all grabbing things off the shelves and desperately click ’n’ collecting forgotten items from the wonderful world wide web but few of us have the time to delve into the history of our favourite brands, no matter how boring the morning commute is.

So with that in mind, we’ve been working on a series of Brand Focus blog posts to give you a little insight into the many marvellous manufacturers we work so closely with to bring you these fabulous flooring products at such refreshingly low price points. We’ve already covered Modulyss and Desso so now it’s time to shine the spotlight on industry top-dog, Burmatex.

Where it all began

Here at DCTUK we commit to keeping our suppliers as close to home as possible to ensure we’re providing the best quality products and it really doesn’t get much more quintessentially British than West Yorkshire - the home of well-established flooring brand, Burmatex. Starting out life as a textile waste sorting company known as J&F Burrows nearly a century ago and rebranded in 1972, the Burmatex story is a true tale of rags to riches. Now one of the main ringleaders in the commercial carnival, these guys loop, bond, rib and texture their mechanical fingers to the bone using durable yarns and fibres that withstand merciless impact and the elusive test of time.

Still operating from the 11-acre site where it all began nearly a century ago, the brand prides itself on mastering both the contemporary and the classic. It was thanks to the introduction of a tufting machine in 1986 that the brand has been able to produce the innovative ranges it offers to its worldwide customer base today and this monumental milestone will always be a huge part of the Burmatex biography.

The Burmatex buyers

Burmatex has become particularly popular among schools and universities for its reasonable yet sophisticated aesthetic, as well as it’s ability to produce unshakeable flooring solutions even a stampede of prehistoric creatures couldn’t scuff. It doesn’t stop there though - we know from experience that anybody from high profile contractors and cutting-edge architects through to the humble, domestic home owner just loves s bit o’ Burmatex.

When generating its internationally recognised designs, Burmatex keeps in mind the requirements of architects, specifiers and contractors, specifically those in the education, leisure, commercial and public sectors. All of the above need a product that is going to withstand the test of time, be resilient against high volumes of traffic, repel everyday grime and stay looking tip-top in the process.

Construction and colourways always come together to offer modular carpet tiles that are particularly perfect for public spaces such as lobbies, lifts and staircases that require style and substance. All Burmatex products are also tested to BSI/CEN standards in relation to durability, wear, flame retardancy, antistatic properties and colourfastness so you know you’re bagging the real McCoy.
