With this in mind, I thought you might like to know more about Desso's Cradle to Cradle® mission and unique EcoBase™ backing.
How Cradle to Cradle® was born
In a nut shell, Cradle to Cradle® is like a friendly ninja equipped with the tools needed to tackle three main issues: toxicity in materials, climate change and resource scarcity. It’s all about reconfiguring our behaviour as manufactures and vendors to ensure we’re having a more positive impact on our suffering planet.
The non-profit program prides itself on being a vision, a set of principles, a market proven standard” and the story was born back in 1992 with a pivotal publication. William McDonough and Dr. Michael Braungart put their brains together and came up with the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program and in 2010 is was scaled up big-style.
Cradle to Cradle® companies must adhere to five must-do criteria and they are as follows…
Material Health - keeping materials as ‘safe’ and risk-free as possible.
Material Reutilisation - being able to feed recyclable products back into the manufacturing process or straight back into the earth itself.
Renewable Energy Use - relying on solar energy to operate. Simples.
Water Stewardship - ensuring that any water going back into local rivers from factories is as a crystal clear as possible and that general water usage is at a responsible level.
Social Responsibility - making sure their staff are a team of happy bunnies :)
Desso are doing their bit
Us humans tend to be an army of greedy guts’ when it comes to taking from the environment but the Cradle to Cradle® program means we can start being a bit kinder to Planet Earth. The brand has even created their very own EcoBase™ backing to ensure that the materials they are using to create their popular products are free of toxins. This exclusive backing officially contains a whopping 97% ‘safe’ materials and is available on lots of Desso tiles here at DCTUK.
